| Detection
and marking of flaws made easier with
AutoJet Technologies control system.
Problem:
A leading manufacturer of personal care products was having difficulty
detecting and marking flaws on their 100" (2.5m) wide non-woven
line. Flaws were not detected until they were shipped to other plants
for further processing. Product quality was suffering, resulting
in increased scrap and production line time.
Solution:
An AutoJet Technologies control system and spray header were designed
and engineered to spray a UV tracing material onto the products
to highlight defects. Using Model 2250 AutoJet Spray Controllers,
the system integrated the customer's existing vision system with
a 5-zone spray manifold, which marks the defects with a strip of
UV material. Multiple spray controllers were used because five separate
spray zones were required, each zone independently triggered by
the vision system when flaws are detected. Model 2250 AutoJet spray
controllers, powered by SprayLogicTM software, use tachometer pulses
from the conveyor to accurately apply a 15' (4.6m) strip of UV material
at line speeds ranging from 400 to 1000ft/min (122m to 305m/min).
The system's ability to highlight the defects with a consistent
length mark despite varying line speeds was key to allowing the
customer to correct production problems quickly and produce higher
quality products. The AutoJet Technologies System did this perfectly.
AutoJet Technologies installed the complete system and the line
was successfully identifying defects within half a day, minimizing
downtime.
